About
Join us for a transformative ceramic experience at my idyllic countryside studio in Hertfordshire. This immersive two-part Raku course guides you through the complete process, from creating your own pieces to experiencing the excitement of the Raku firing. The course is divided into two sessions: Session One – Making, 18 July Create and shape your unique ceramic pieces using hand-building techniques and clays that are specific to raku. You'll learn about forms, surface decoration, and how to prepare your work for firing. Session Two – Glazing & Firing, 1 August Return once your pieces have been bisque-fired to apply Raku glazes and take part in the dramatic firing process. Experience the magic of removing glowing-hot pots from the kiln and placing them into combustible materials to create the distinctive colours, crackles, and smoky effects that make Raku so unique. Suitable for beginners and experienced makers alike, this course offers a relaxed, safe, creative environment in beautiful countryside surroundings. Leave with your own handcrafted Raku ceramics and a deeper appreciation of this ancient and exciting firing technique. We provide everything you need and you will be able to decorate your work with a huge array of slips, underglazes, oxides and glazes, all you need to bring is enthusiasm! Throughout the summer, there will be Raku firing days where you can choose a pre-made pottery piece to glaze and decorate. However, for the full experience of creating, glazing, and raku firing your own work from start to finish, this two-part course is for you!
