6 week course in pottery wheel throwing

Home Farm

About the Class

Embark on your throwing journey in this comprehensive 6-week course designed for beginners and those with a bit of experience. Working in a small, sociable group of just 4 participants, you’ll receive personalized instruction and plenty of time to build confidence on the potter’s wheel. Each session includes 2 hours of guided making time, followed by 30 minutes of clean-up, giving you the space to fully immerse yourself in the creative process while learning essential studio practice. This is a longer format of the 5 week course, specifically designed for an evening class setting. Throughout the course, you’ll learn the fundamentals of wheel throwing, including centering, pulling, shaping, trimming, and glazing. You’ll create a range of functional forms such as mugs, bowls, and vases. You will also have the opportunity to focus on using the Leach wheel, which is a traditional potters wheel, a truly authentic experience. Fair warning — once try a Leach Wheel, no other wheel will quite measure up! In the final weeks, you’ll explore surface decoration and glazing before your pieces are kiln-fired to either earthenware or stoneware, ready for collection at a later date. Fee Includes:  Classes, all materials, kiln-firing, coloured and clear glaze, tuition, and tools will be supplied at the studio.  Please wear comfortable clothes you don't mind getting messy, flat shoes and tie long hair back.  Remove arm and hand jewellery and have short nails if possible. Suitable for:  all levels, including beginners.  Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult caregiver, who will also need to pay to attend the course.
