From Flow to form: Mug making pottery class
From liquid clay to mug - choose your cup shape, craft your handle, create your very own mug.
About
Get hands-on and create your own unique ceramic mugs. Ever wondered how ceramic mugs are made? Join us for an engaging, hands-on introduction to slip casting and discover how to turn liquid clay into two beautiful ceramic mugs of your own that you can use every day. You will learn how to pour liquid clay (slip) into a mould and how the clay builds up to create a solid form. You will also get to see pre-cast pieces at different stages, helping you understand how the process works. Then it’s your turn! Choose a mould, pour your own cast and get involved in every step. While your piece sets, explore handle-making and choose a pre-cast mug shape to customise with your own handmade handle and paint with underglazes or glazes. Once your pieces are ready, you will learn to de-mould, refine, paint with underglazes or glazes from our large selection of colour choices, choosing colours and finishes to bring your creations to life. You will also be able to select a glaze for your second mug, giving you even more opportunity to experiment. We will finish by attaching a handle to a mug that has made cast during the workshop. You will end the workshop having made two mugs, decorated least one of them and selected a glaze for the second. Your mugs will be glazed either with a clear glaze or a coloured glaze of your choice by the studio after the workshop, and kept for firing and collection at a later date. Come ready to get your hands dirty, try something new and leave inspired! Whether you’re completely new to ceramics or keen to add a new technique to your creative toolkit, this workshop is a great way to explore mould casting, learn practical skills and create ceramic pieces with your own personal touch. Fee Includes: Classes, all materials, kiln-firing, coloured and clear glaze, tuition, and tools will be supplied at the studio. Please wear comfortable clothes you don't mind getting messy including shoes, flat shoes and tie long hair back. Remove arm and hand jewellery and have short nails if possible.
